My weight was reaching an all-time high at almost 200kg, and I was looking really huge, taking up almost 2 seats on the bus. Aside from having frequent backaches after walking for a short while, I experienced shortness of breath when climbing up slopes or even a short flight of stairs. There were always people just giving me weird looks and my self-esteem took a hit.
It took me about 7 years to lose about 82kg. My body fat percentage was immeasurable in the beginning when I used the Tanita machine – I was told if it was over 70% they would show it as an error, but it dropped to about 40% now. My cholesterol levels also saw improvement and I feel much lighter and healthier than before.
I am now more confident in the things I do, and am really glad to be able to do things that I never thought I could do again – from yoga poses to dance movements, I am definitely more agile and able to do what I love, without the fear of people judging me. I’ve also experienced less backaches and knee pains as well.
Fitness is an ongoing process, and I set out to continue to work on my goal to lose more weight. There’s always new things to work on, and I’m always looking for new Fitness First classes and new experiences to join!
There were many Group Exercise Instructors who made differences to my workouts, my lifestyle, and my goals. Many of them have motivated me throughout my entire journey, helped me through my difficult times, and encouraged and taught me things that I could work on, so that I could get to where I am now.
I want to let everyone know that it is possible to achieve our goals. It may be challenging at times, but if you really put your heart to it – or better yet, do the things you enjoy – going through these times with the right people and support will slowly but surely allow us to reach our goals. It’s not about doing it fast, it’s about doing it right, and enjoying the entire process.
